Write Club is a thing we are starting on the Inference Substack.
Writers submit a piece they’ve published on Substack. We pick and promote one story per day. We read it.
Then at the appointed time (usually 7 pm EST!), people show up for 30 minutes in the Write Club chat (link to be provided), hang out with friendlies, and talk about the story with the author.
You don’t have to come every day, but Write Club will be open and waiting for you whenever you want to hear voices other than the one(s) in your head…
During Write Club, we’ll share our favorite lines, what really landed emotionally for us, gentle constructive suggestions (if the author wishes), and, if the story moves us, we might like, comment, and restack it en masse like a school of SubStack-roving literature piranhas.
How to submit
You need to subscribe to Inference (for free!) and have a piece already published on your Substack.
Send me (David T Etheredge) the link to your submission via Direct Chat message. I will reach out to coordinate the next open date that you are able to attend Write Club, and off we go!
As we schedule new authors and pieces for a particular day, we’ll post a note promoting the event and tag you (the author) so that you can restack it to your mom thousands of adoring fans. On the day of the event, we’ll promote it again throughout the day!
Submit one piece at a time. If you’ve never been featured before, you go to the front of the queue; we always make room for first-timers.
There’s no word count limit, but the piece should be readable in under 30 minutes. Beyond that, it’s up to you: an essay, a chapter, a short story, a poem, whatever you most want people to actually read and talk about.
The 1st rule of Write Club:
Don’t talk about Write Club; write about it!
The 2nd rule of Write Club:
Critique unto others as you would have them critique unto you.
Watch for the first Write Club announcement soon!

That's a super cool idea. I really love it.
What is the participation mechanism? Your chat? A daily post with comments? Or comments on that particular author's pub?
