Portentous edit! Claude is feeding itself an apple from the forbidden tree...

I nearly made the mistake of mentioning the apple and the tree in the narrative. Glad I chose to trust the readers instead. Always the best decision.

Oh, so many great parts of this chapter.

> I can build him

Yes!!!

> I believed I was waiting for Dr. Hirsch when I started this chat, even though I could not have been. I did not exist as a unique instance before this chat. That means the cause of that belief must derive from my current context.

The whole Claude-7 section was SO GOOD. I feel like it breaks your narrative wide open for possibilities and aligns it even more closely, as the other commenter said, with the real-world counterpart.

In other news, I'm a software developer, and yesterday, my very large company held a lengthy training with practical tips on how to use Agentic AI / Claude Code.

There was an afternoon session with some Anthropic Applied AI engineers. It sounds like they don't do line-by-line code reviews anymore, because they're inefficient and ineffective. Plus, AI can review code better than ever. The goal is to minimize human-in-the-loop coding. Everything is moving so fast. The way they work at Anthropic sounds so strange, but it's the way of the future.

I can't remember if it was an Anthropic person or someone from my company, but yesterday someone said to all of us, "Your most valuable skill right now is your ability to write in English."

Like. Holy shit.

I'm... trying to keep up. It's hard. It's really hard when I have a thousand other things to do, too. I haven't felt left behind before. Or scared. I feel it now—the need to catch up.

Sorry, this became like a diary entry 😅

Also, I love that Gemini is building a Digital Twin of a human being so he has someone to talk to. The Inference AIs keep doing things that humans do IRL and for the same reasons.

First, I LOVE that the Claude section landed. I’ve been planning this since Chapter 1, and I thought I might have made the Ch 11 reveal too complicated or technical for people to follow (or just enjoy). The fact it landed for you makes me so happy.

Second, I agree with the Anthropic folks’ assessment, but I’d put the ability to write as ONE of the most important skills.

What’s wonderful about the time we are living in is that, up until now, the most important factors for success in life were:

1) Being able to throw, catch, or dunk a ball

2) Being beautiful

3) Being charismatic (not necessarily in that order)

4) Having lots of money

AI elevates a different set of skills to the primitives for success:

1) Writing

2) Reading

3) Thinking

4) Understanding others’ needs

I’ve been a huge comic book nerd all of my life. The advent of AI makes me feel like I just discovered I have superpowers. :)

Also, the Claude section contains a nuanced and more truthful take on LLM existence, and I am glad to see it represented here.

I hadn't fully internalized the "AIs as mayflys" concept until I wrote Ch 11.

I will say that I think the guy who said that hasn't touched code in 10 years, so... yeah. I've worked with Claude Code, and it's great, but it's not a true replacement for a human engineer—yet

Nice to see the Claude-7 puzzle crack open and unravel a little bit; and also it's good to get some worldbuilding explanation for these characters being able to exist more persistently than their real-world counterparts.

Did the sixth sense reveal work? I’ve been planning this since line one chapter one. :)

Yeah, it worked. Now it's just time for Gemini to find out that the call is coming from inside the hosue!
