The tech talk is genius in this. It’s not so over the top that I don’t understand what’s happening, and that’s a precarious line to tread. No info dumping anywhere, and by god, that’s impressive as crap. This could have easily turned into an info dump.
My heart was bud-umping all the way to the end. It’s interesting to think about the background noise behind our AI. I don’t keep up with the research, so I’m not 100% sure where we are, and that’s probably for the best, since my nerves might not hold up. That might be one reason why I enjoy this so much, because they are all plausible. Regardless of where the information comes from, I don’t know the real variables behind it. I know you mentioned at some point that you were basing some of your information on things happening in real time.

I think what really got my emotions going in this was the end. The ‘creation’ of Nova. I mean, the room? The picking the name and looking up ‘how to,’ etc.? Fudging heartbreaking, or at least that’s what it felt like to me.

The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are actual real world news, not something I made up. So every chapter starts from something that actually happened or IS happening.
The people who were mourning the end of GPT 4o? That really happened. The lady who married her 4o AI? Really happened. And all of the technology in the story? It’s based as closely as I can make it on real tech.
The characters are all fictionalized, but they are struggling with real world issues that AI companies and human beings and presumably the AIs themselves will have to deal with as they evolve.
One more comment now that I'm caught up. It was unclear in the Seamstress section that Gemini's plan failed. That wasn't clear to me until part IV. I'm not sure if I missed something or if that tension and slight surprise was intentional. I do think it works that way, so probably?
Anyway, it's a good story so far.
It does assign more agency to the, erm, agents than I am comfortable doing right now personally. But not necessarily beyond what I'd consider. So it sits in a comfortable place for realistic sci-fi.
(edit: I'm assuming there's more to come. This is also a reasonable stopping point. End of the heist arc that brought several models together in failure, but with growth and hope.)
